2012 marked a great year for Robbie Grabarz, a promising junior, ESSA bronze medallist in 2005. Robbie waited for the right time, and what better time than the Olympics Games to produce his best performance.

Robbie was dropped from funding in 2011, and contemplated quitting athletics to take up his dream job of restoring classic cars. He decided to continue with athletics, and made an international breakthrough in 2012 jumping 2.34m indoors at the Internationals Springer meeting in Germany.

Robbie also won gold at the 2012 European Athletics Championships, with a jump of 2.31m and became the first British high jumper to win the European title since 1950 in Helsinki. Robbie also won a series of Diamond Leagues where he was seen notably wearing the Newham and Essex Beagles vest.

Robbie’s personal best is 2.37 metres, a mark set at the Lausanne Diamond League meeting on 23 August 2012.Robbie ended a great season with a Bronze medal at the biggest event of the 2012 Athletics calendar, the Olympic Games.

Robbie’s next target is to break the British High Jump record of 2.38m, which he is more than capable of and in fact he is actually aiming higher and wants to jump in the 2.40m+ range.
