RECORD BREAKER: Mo Farah celebrates his victory.
NEWHAM & ESSEX BEAGLES athlete Mo Farah is the 3,000m British indoor record holder after a startling performance in Glasgow at the weekend,

Competing in the Arriva International on Saturday, the 25-year-old came home in seven minutes 40.99 seconds, shaving 0.10s from John Mayock's time set in February 2002.

The Somali-born athlete saw off a strong field, including Gideon Gathimba, Olle Wallerang, Bolota Asmerom and Christian Klein.

Farah was delighted with his performance and his build-up to the event.

"I knew I was in good shape and winter training has gone well," smiled the talented middle-distance runner, who is widely regarded as the best in Europe.

"It was really good and I was really happy.

"It was a really nice performance and I knew I was in good form."

The Beagle is desperate to make amends for a poor 2008, where he failed to qualify for the Olympic final, a feat with his undoubted talent he should have achieved.

He is clearly still disappointed by what happened in Beijing but the middle-distance runner is keen to make his mark this season.

"It can't make up for last year," he admitted.

"But I put my head down and trained really hard with the boys back in England in the summer."

And after a great weekend Farah is excited about the coming year and can't wait for this year's big one.

"There a lot more to come," he beamed. "I will keep learning and keep doing what I'm doing. My target is the Europeans and hopefully I can stay injury free.

"I'm lucky to have the Kenyan guys around, some are better then me so it is good to work together with them.
