Christine is the current (London 2012) 400m Olympic silver medallist, and former 400m Commonwealth (2006), World (2007), and Olympic (2008) champion.

Christine graduated from University College London with a degree in linguistics in 2005.

Christine was a late starter, only turning to the track seriously at the age of 16, but she wasted no time and in 2003 won a bronze medal at the European Junior Championships. She was a semi-finalist at both the Athens Olympics in 2004 and the World Championships the following year.

Christine began to specialise in the 400m as no other athlete from Newham & Essex Beagles AC wanted to compete over such a distance. From then on, Christine was regularly selected by Tim Mundle to run the 400m, due to the impressive times she ran for her age group.

Prior to athletics Christine was a talented netballer and represented England at Under-17 and Under-19 level before opting to focus on athletics.Christine’s victory in the Beijing Games was the 50th gold medal for Great Britain in Athletics at the Olympics. Whilst Christine’s Personal Best of 49.61 ranks her third amongst British women 400m runners, behind fellow Olympic medallists Kathy Cook and Katharine Merry.

Apart from her trade mark smile, Christine is a role model and inspiration to youngsters; she willingly visits schools, and other organisations to give talks and present awards.
