Steve Lewis has showed great promise ever since his days as a youngster, winning the bronze medal at the 2003 World Youth Championships and in 2006, Lewis won a surprise bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in the same year with a pb of 5.50m.

At the 2008 Olympic Games he failed ro record a height but that has not stopped his progress and is challenging Nick Buckfield’s national records. He vaulted a PB of 5.75m in January 2009, to move within 5cm and 6cm of those records. This vault remained his best of the year, although he came close with a 5.72m clearance in Germany in August. At the World Championships in Berlin he came a creditable equal seventh.

He claims that he likes to talk to his poles "to make sure we're on good terms and ready for the big day!"

His hobbies include watching television and playing golf.
