Lennon & Schofield take All Irish 800m titles!
Leigh Lennon & Robbie Schofield took both of the senior All Irish 800m titles in style at the Odessey Arena in Belfast!

On the Saturday they had to contend with the heats. With Leigh going first in heat 2 only the first two would go through to the final, with a good piece of front running she came 1st in a seasons best 2:13.12. When Robbie stepped on track  only the winner would progress to the final, Robbie set off intent on making it through to the final, leading all the way until the final 30mtrs being passed on the line, his time of 1:53.58 made him the fastest loser to gain a place in the final. Watch this space for final reports.

With Robbie going into the final as a fastest loser it was sure to be an exciting race, the pace was slow going through 400m in 59secs a some what pedestrian pace for a senior race. Robbie reacted to this by pushing the pace on from 400m out, Robbie expected a challenge at the bell but it did not come and he romped home in a time of 1:53.38, running 54secs for his last 400. After Robbie said he was disappointed with his run and wanted the pace to be much faster, I felt good all the way but pleased with the win.

40 minutes later it was Leigh's turn to take to the track, the pace was taken on by eventual runner up Laura Crowe, some 6 years Leigh's senior. Leigh followed her until the final 100m when she put in  a kick to go past Crowe, Crowe worked hard but was unable to go with Leigh, Lennon went on to win and set a new indoor pb of 2:09.57 and in the process winning by over 2 seconds. Leigh said after her race, that she was glad somebody pushed the pace on I really wanted to break 2:10 indoors for the first time, it is great I am looking forward to the U20 champs in Birmingham next week.
