Senior Women Finish 5th at the UK Women's Athletics League
On Sunday Newham and Essex Beagles Senior ladies began their season with a Div 3 U.K.W.A.L meeting at Mayesbrook Park in Dagenham.  As with all teams problems mounted for the managers during the week before, and the disappointment of missing some athletes was made up for by the effort and team spirit put in for the team by those who were there. This was best typified by Adele Stach-Kavitz who although a veteran and the only middle distance runner available on the day ran A.string 800m, 1500m, 3000m to get some valuable points for the team.

After a long day that saw sunshine and showers all day the team finished in a very credible 5th place with 139.5 points. "After a day like today it makes me proud to be team manager" said Tim Mundle. The day started well with 4th place A long jump for Amanda Ranger with 5.67 and 2nd place Julia Machin with 5.36. The pole vault saw Melissa Strevens equal her club record of 2.80 for 5th place and in the B string Kelly Montgomery 2.30 equal 3rd. The hammer saw the pairing of Paula Peaty 2nd with 42.77 and Jo Bennett 3rd with 35.90.

The first track race of the day saw Adele Stach - Kavitz run the 800m in 2.49.73 for 7th place, this was followed by the 100s A Tope Faith Nuga 2nd in 12.56 and B Susannah Banjo 1st in 12.56. The 400s saw Ashleigh Williams 7th in 59.86 and Rochelle Jones 5th in 67.45. The 100H saw Kelly Montgomery in the A race 6th in 18.92. In the discus the pairing of Sue Lawrence 4th with 35.25 and Charisse Tapang 2nd with 32.47 kept things ticking over. In the javelin Hayley Thomas 2nd with 41.70 and Sue Lawrence 2nd with 29.48 added more good points, next came the shot with Jo Bennett 2nd with 12.36 and Sue Lawrence 4th with 10.70. Adele Stach - Kavitz then did 3000m 6th in 11.51.75. The triple jump saw Amanda Ranger 2nd with 12.31 and Kirsty Smith B 1st with 11.26. Adele Stach - Kavitz then did 1500m 8th in 5.43..51. Susannah Banjo was next A 200m 3rd in 25.04.

The last field event saw Julia Machin 1st high jump with1.75. The 4x100 saw Leandra Polius, Amanda Ranger, Rochelle Jones, and Susannah Banjo place 4th in 50.12.
