On Saturday 11th July Leigh Lennon, Emmanuel Okpokiri and Robbie Schofield became English School Champions in the Senior Girls 800m, Senior Boys 100MH and Senior Boys 800m.

First up was Robbie Schofield the AAA’s U20s and Inter-counties 800m Champion representing Lancashire, with an early start in the Senior Boys 800m. Robbie won with a National Standard time of 1:50.38. Robbie is coached by Don Lennon. Robbie has since been selected for the European Juniors in Serbia.

Next up was Leigh Lennon also representing Lancashire, who despite already having the qualifying time for the European Juniors, was told by the selectors that she had to win the English Schools’ to be considered for the second wave of selection on 13th July. Leigh also won in a Nation Standard time (2:08.12). Leigh who is coached by her father Don Lennon is an ‘On Camp with Kelly’ athlete as well. Her mentor Kelly Holmes was on hand at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield, and urged the selectors to take Leigh to the European Juniors in Serbia from the 23rd - 26th July, Leigh has since been selected.

Finally, it was the turn of Emmanuel Okpokiri representing Essex in the Senior Boys 110MH. Emmanuel glided over the hurdles and looked impressive in his National Standard winning time of 14.18. Emmanuel stated that he was delighted with his win, and that is what he hoped the outcome of his training would bring. Emmanuel’s style of hurdling was likened to that of his coach Tony Jarrett. Emmanuel now moves up to 8th in the UK U20 rankings.
