Final UK Women's League Meeting of the Season

On Saturday1st August Newham and Essex Beagles had their final UK Women’s League meeting of this current season in Wigan. The team that competed on the day were fairly strong and thanks to a couple of late replacements gave a good account of themselves on the day. For most of the day the team just about managed to hold onto 3rd place, but the final three individual track events saw them overtaken and put in a final 4th position on the day by just three points. Thanks go to all the athletes who competed during the season for the team.

 

The day started as usual with three field events, in the Long Jump Amanda Ranger leapt to 5.86meters for 1st position in the A string, Charis O’Connor came 1st in the B 1st with 5.36 meters. The Pole Vault saw Melissa Strevens vault 2.70 meters for 5th position, and Kelly Montgomery 2.30 meters 4th B. in the Hammer Sue Lawrence threw 37.55 meters for 6th in the A, and Natasha Scarlett 22.19 meters for 6th in the B string.

 

The first track event saw Leigh Lennon 1st in the 800m with a time of 2:09.18 and Adele Stach-Kavitz 6th B in 2:40.03. Next was the100m where Claire Spurway was 1st in a time of 12:41, and Susannah Banjo 1st in 12:85. The 200m saw Claire Spurway 3rd 25.40 and Susannah Banjo 1st in 25:27. In the 400m Ashleigh Williams was 4th in a time of 59:38, and Rochelle Jones 7th in 68:65. The1500m saw Adele Stach-Kavitz finish 7th in 5: 29.76. The 100 hurdles saw Helen Morton 5th in 16:36 and Kelly Montgomery 7th in 18:73.

 

The discus saw Sue Lawrence 6th with a distance of 33.74 meters and Adele Stach-Kavitz   7th with 16.88 meters. In the javelin Helen Morton was 6th with 31.17 meters and Sue Lawrence 1st with 31.14 meters. The Shot saw our two Pole Vaulters filling in with Melissa Strevens in 8th with 6.22 meters and Kelly Montgomery 8th with 5.93 meters. The final two field events were the Triple Jump where Amanda Ranger came 3rd with 11.69meters and Kirsty Smith came 1st with 10.97 meters, and the High Jump where Charis O’Connor was 1st with 1.65 meters and Helen Morton 2nd with 1.50 meters. The 4x100m relay saw Banjo, Spurway, Jones, and Ranger 2nd in a time of 49.34secs. For the last event of the day, the 4x400m relay saw Morton, Williams, Banjo, and Lennon finish 3rd in a time of 3: 58. 36. A great effort on the day by all involved, with Team Manager Tim Mundle thanking all the people who went along to act as officials at these meetings.
