Mo Storms to 5

On Friday 24th July Mo Farah produced a stunning season's best performance by winning the 5,000m, in a time of 13:09.14 at the Aviva London Grand Prix, at Crystal Palace. Mo was attempting to set a new British 5,000m record.Mo has been targeting David Moorcroft's long standing British 5,000m record of 13:00.1, and although he missed out on this he still managed a huge smile as he did his lap of honour. He said, "I just wanted to win. I am happy because the conditions were difficult. it was not easy but but the crowd made a big difference, they gave me a boost coming off the bend"

Other Beagle athletes who competed at the 2 day event were:

Chris Tomlinson who leapt to 2nd place in the Long Jump on Saturday with 9.21, just eight centimetres short of his British record. Chris will have to wait till next months World Championships in Berlin to do battle with 1st placed Dwight Phillips.

Steve Lewis finished 4th in the Pole Vault with 5.55, some way off his personal best of 5.75 from earlier in the year.

Gianni Frankis finished 5th in his heat of the 110H with a time of  13.87, after his recent Silver medal place at the European U23 Championships in Kaunas, Lithuania.

Kieren Kelly finished 9th in the Shot with 18.33, in a highly contested match between 1st placed Beijing Olympic silver medalist Christian Cantwell and 2nd placed reigning world champion Reese Hoffa.

Tyrone Edgar unfortunately did not get the chance to race Usain Bolt in his heat or the finals of the 100m, as he was disqualified for false starting.
