Beagles are Senior Club of the Year
Newham and Essex Beagles have been rewarded for their successes over the past couple of seasons, by being crowned 'Senior Club of the Year' at the England Athletics National Awards ceremony at Aston Villa Football Club on Friday, 9th October 2009.

The
England Athletics event sponsored by Heidsieck & Co. Monopole Champagne honoured the sport's volunteers. Clubs, officials and coaches at the event held in conjunction with the 2009 Hall of Fame event.  The 2009 England Athletics National Awards programme, sponsored by Heidsieck & Co. Monopole Champagne, saw volunteers from across the country recognised for their contributions in supporting the development of the sport.  England national winners in each category will then be considered for nomination for UK wide recognition at the UKA Annual Awards celebration will take place on 5 December 2009.

Senior Club of the Year: Newham & Essex Beagles AC
The origins of the Club go back 125 years and in 2009, as well as having 7 representativRowan Griffiths with the awardes at this year’s World Championships in Berlin, the club won the British Athletics League for the second year running. The team went on to represent Britain in the European Clubs' Trophy which is the top inter club competition in the world – finishing 5th which was best performance by British club this century.  Apart from the strong competitive performances both on the track and cross country, the club has excellent productive partnerships, working with the local organisations, which has led to Newham becoming one of the pilot McCain’s Athletics networks.  

Beagles Life member Noel Thatcher was inducted into the England Athletics Hall of Fame.
Stars including Darren Campbell and Katharine Merry were present as athletes including Jonathan Edwards, Steve Backley and Noel Thatcher were inducted. Historic figures of the sport such as Harold Abrahams, Lord Burghley, Mary Rand and Ann Packer were inducted as were figures such as Ron Pickering and Malcolm Arnold for their services to the sport of athletics. read more
