About Us Famous Athletes Christine Ohuruogu

Christine Ohuruogu

Christine Ohuruogu

Christine Ohuruogu MBE is one of Britain's most successful athletes of the past decade. Her initial success was in 2005, where she gained a silver medal in the European U23 Athletics Championships. The question about whether she could take this quality to the senior field was partially answered with her Gold Medal in the Commonwealth games in Melbourne a year later. The question however was emphatically answered a year later, when she became Great Britain's only gold medal winner and World Champion in the 2007 World Championships. The general public were beginning to learn about Christine's powerful last 100m, crucial for her to become World Champion that year. By the end of 2008, her very impressive finishing speed was highlighted in Sports biggest stage, after winning the 400m Olympic Gold - holding off hotly tipped favourite Sanya Richards.

Looking forward, Christine is focussing on defending her Olympic Champion status in her home town of Stratford later this year. After initially joining the Beagles as someone keen to get involved in Athletics as a beginner, she is a clear inspiration for anyone wanting to be the best they can be.
