James Shane

Throughout James' teenage years his talent for Athletics was undeniable. Aged 15, he won the 1500m at the European Youth Olympics, interestingly enough he ran it in a time more than 10 seconds quicker than Coe, Ovett and Cram had managed at the same age. Since then, 2011 was definitely his break through year in the senior ranks. After a highly impressive run in the World Trials in Birmingham, Shane went to Daegu with high hopes. This led to agonising disappointment in the 1500m, with Shane just missing out on qualification for the final by less than a tenth of a second. This, compounded by the fact that sixth athletes (including the eventual World Champion in Kiprop) all qualified in slower times. Undoubtably, this will spur James on for the Olympics, and he will definitely be a face to watch in 2012.
