The opening day of the championship saw wins for Chris Tomlinson in the LJ with a leap of 8.15 which is the best in Europe this year, and Rabah Yousif in the 400m in 46:68 in tempratures of 34C. Tyrone Edgar came 2nd behind Portuguese's Francis Obikewlu in the 100m in a time of 10:16, as did Gianni Frankis in 13.85 in the 110MH. Rikki Fifton finished 3rd in 21:09 in the 200m. Abdul Buhari came 4th in the Discus with a throw of 58.05 There was 5th place finish for Steven Green in 53:35 in the 400MH. There were 6th place positions for Robbie Schofield in 1:59.21 in the 800m,Keith Gerrad 14:29:35 in the 5000m, Frank Baddick 3:50.99 in the 1500m, Simon Brown 65.92 in the Hammer, Chris Mackay 8:10.86 in the 3000m and Kieren Kelly 18.56 in the Shot. There were 7th place finishes for Dan Dunscombe with 1.90 in the HJ and Nathan Riding in 10:11.24 in the 3000SC. The Beagles team of Ryan Scott, Tyrone Edgar, Rikki Fifton and Mark Findlaycame3rd in the 4 x 100m in 39:37 setting a new British Clubs record, the old record was held by Haringey from 1991.In the 4 x 400mthe Beagles team of Andre Fernandez, Paige Haines, Mark FindlayandRabah Yousif won in a time of 3:08:35.
